Climate Change – Step Towards Recovery

Climate Change – Step Towards Recovery

As a 7th grader learning about astronomy and the wonders that science and research had brought us, I thought by now we would have already landed on Mars and not only that, we would have already set out human colonies on Mars. Instead, in our present day, forget about making another planet habitable, we had made our planet that was already habitable inhabitable. It may have been great to think about a green Mars but now in a few decades, a green earth may not be in our reach. But there is still hope. We can still stabilize the planet for the survival of our fellow species and the environment. Greed and selfishness of the corporates have brought us to this. But we are not any less to blame. The abundance of our carelessness was also a factor which leads to this result. But I say this not to just worry you. I say this to ask you to play your part in a step towards recovery from climate change.

According to the EPA since the 1900s CO2 emissions have increased by 90%. And there is correlation with this increase with energy consumption. Coincidence, I think not! It is not too moral of us to leave our children and future generations a ruined planet. How will we explain of destruction to them? Telling them that we could not control our desires for money and things that weren’t important to survival, we just liked to have them. To tell them that we were too lazy to change even though all the resource was right there to do so. To tell them we didn’t care until it was too late. That would not be an appealing or reasonable answer for them.

We are unfortunate even further that we have deniers in power such as the Republican party and President Trump. People who give other reasons as excuses, but for some reason also in the back take money from corporates that cause the pollution. And so the 3% of scientists that deny also some were found taking money to say what they say. It’s quite expectable for someone who would be taking money from a specific corporate to agree with them. It is undeniable that there had been a 90% increase in carbon emission. Science is based on observation. And we have observed that, according to National Geographic, “Global Mean Sea Level (GMSL) has risen by 4 to 8 inches (10 to 20 centimeters)”.

In the search for solutions, we find that we can use clean energy sources such as solar panels and windmills. They like to argue that it will not work and dismiss the topic, but had they forgotten other nations like Germany and Sweden who had also switched to clean energy? Surveys show Sweden to be the happiest place. Their people are the happiest, while ours suffer the consequences of corporates action. Corporates and those with self-interests have ruined the environment for their own desires. As Cree Indian Proverb had said, “Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realize we cannot eat money”.

Were not killing nature nor the planet. Nature likes balance. And if it has to eliminate us for that balance, it will. If the grass dies, then the rain arrives and it regrows. Nature will go on. We are killing ourselves. For what? For some it’s money and some simply don’t care. They may dismiss the topic that they don’t like nor talk about politics. You have to understand this is not politics. This is a global issue that affects us all.
And for those that may be thinking well then what do we do to fix this? Can we even fix this? Yes, it is possible! We can switch to clean energy and stop pollution right now and turn everything around. We can place a carbon tax and remove a bit of tax for something else. Which means you’re still paying no more, the same amount, buy just for different subjects. A company called Tesla also developed a power plant that runs on clean energy and the world would only need 100 of them. As Bill Nye said in an interview ,with Senator Sanders, “We can turn around and make the entire united states run on clean energy if we wanted to” but do we want to? Do we care enough? Will the lobbyist and corporates allow us to?
